The colorful vinta is a familiar image of the southern Philippines. This proposed story looks beyond the photograph to ask how boats are built, how sails are made, and what they mean to the people who use them.
We plan to speak with boatbuilders and local cultural workers, documenting specific places and practices rather than presenting one boat as a complete portrait of a region.
