The former Compostela Valley offers a landscape of rivers, uplands and mineral-rich waters.
Davao de Oro was formerly known as Compostela Valley. The province adopted its present name following a plebiscite in 2019, but its landscape of uplands, rivers and agricultural settlements remains central to its identity.
Nabunturan is the provincial capital, while places such as New Bataan and Maco offer other perspectives on the terrain. Waterways and forested slopes connect communities across a province whose natural scenery is often less familiar than that of its coastal neighbors.
The hot-spring area in Maco is one of its distinctive natural attractions, where mineral deposits contribute to the appearance of the rock and water. These places offer an introduction to Davao de Oro through its physical landscape, while its towns and communities give that scenery a human context.
