Capiz: At the Seafood Table

Capiz is often introduced through its seafood. In Roxas City, the coastal setting of Baybay has become closely associated with meals that bring the day’s catch to the table.

The province’s relationship with water extends inland through rivers and estuaries. The Palina River area offers another view of this landscape, where food, livelihood and leisure share the same setting. A meal here can be as much about the place as the dish itself.

Capiz also has a significant historical identity. Manuel Roxas, for whom Roxas City is named, became the first president of the Third Philippine Republic in 1946. In nearby Panay, Santa Monica Church and its great bell provide another heritage landmark. Food and history together make the province more than a passing coastal stop.
