Cotabato: A View toward Mount Apo

Cotabato province, also commonly called North Cotabato, has a landscape of agricultural plains and uplands. Around Kidapawan, the view turns toward Mount Apo and the forests and waterways associated with its slopes.

The mountain is shared across a wider geographical and cultural landscape. Lake Venado, high within the Mount Apo area, is among the places closely associated with that environment. Its setting makes the relationship between water, forest and high ground especially visible.

Cotabato should be distinguished from the independent city of Cotabato and from the neighboring Maguindanao provinces. Each has its own landmarks and communities. For the province itself, the combination of farming country, towns and eastern mountain scenery provides a useful starting point for understanding its character.
