Abra: A Northern Landscape Worth Knowing
Terraced waterfalls, old churches and river crossings reveal different sides of the province.
Abra sits within the Cordillera’s mountain landscape, with rivers, agricultural valleys and settlements connected by winding roads. Its appeal is not confined to a single landmark: natural scenery and built heritage appear alongside one another.
Kaparkan Falls is known for water cascading over a series of pale, terraced rock formations. The appearance and accessibility of the falls change with seasonal conditions, making it a landscape to understand rather than simply a photograph to collect. Kili Falls and its nearby hot spring are another part of Abra’s natural heritage.
In the province’s towns, churches such as Santa Catalina de Alejandria in Tayum and the cathedral in Bangued tell a different story. River crossings, plazas and old buildings offer a quieter introduction to the life of this northern province.
