Mountain Province: A View from the Highlands
Sagada’s cliffs and the province’s mountain settlements offer scenery with a cultural story behind it.
Mountain Province lies within the Cordillera of northern Luzon, where roads pass through valleys, terraces and highland communities. Its landscapes are often striking, but the traditions associated with them deserve equal attention.
In Sagada, hanging coffins are a visible expression of local burial practices. They are part of a cultural and spiritual landscape, not simply unusual objects on a cliff face. Understanding the site calls for respect for the communities and families connected with it.
