Negros Oriental: Life beside the Water
Apo Island and the waters near Bais offer two distinctive encounters with the marine world.
Negros Oriental’s eastern coastline provides a setting for some of its best-known natural attractions. Apo Island, off the coast of Dauin, is especially associated with marine life and community-based conservation.
Near Bais, dolphins are part of the wider seascape of the Tañon Strait. They are wild animals whose movements cannot be guaranteed, a reminder that a boat journey is an encounter with a living environment rather than a scheduled display.
On land, local food provides another introduction to the province. Budbud pilit, a glutinous-rice delicacy wrapped in banana leaves, is among the familiar flavors of the region. Between a coastal view and a town meal, Negros Oriental offers a journey that connects the sea with the communities along its shore.
