Sarangani: A Southern Coastal Landscape
Gumasa’s beaches and the province’s river country reveal different sides of southern Mindanao.
Sarangani’s landscape wraps around a wide stretch of southern Mindanao, bringing together coastal towns and inland communities. The sea is central to much of the province’s scenery and livelihood.
In Glan, Gumasa is known for stretches of pale sand and a broad coastal setting. Farther west, the Pangi River in Maitum offers a different encounter with water, set within an inland landscape rather than an open beach.
The province also has rich cultural traditions, including those of Blaan communities. Weaving and other forms of knowledge add a dimension that cannot be captured by scenery alone. Sarangani is best approached through these connections between coast, river and community, giving local life as much attention as the familiar holiday view.
